AT&T Stadium stage for Academy of Country Music Awards, ACM Awards stage

Academy of Country Music Awards

The Academy of Country Music Awards honor and showcase the biggest names and emerging talent in Country Music.

The Academy of Country Music not only produces the annual, live ACM Awards show, they also organize and produce all of the events that make up Party for a Cause, a collection of charitable events that take place that same weekend, surrounding and leading up to the ACM Awards.

The Goal

After our first time working with each other in 2014, ACM has come back to me annually to create collateral for both the Awards and the Party for a Cause productions. The challenge is to use either the mood board ACM has come up with as a guide for any given year, a variation on those boards, or to create original design to build environmental signage, posters, brochures, maps, and more. The ACM Awards has a visual identity for any given year, while Party for a Cause has another, as you will see moving through the below imagery. Working with the awesome people at ACM makes the challenge of juggling of a lot of moving parts and meeting quick deadlines a pleasure!

Scope

Needs vary from year to year. I have plucked a few samples, from a few years so I can save you from sifting through hundreds of images. 🙂 As you scroll, you’ll see that I’ve noted which are ACM mood board-based and which are original creative.

2020 • ACM Awards Collateral

Due to the pandemic, 2020’s ACM Awards show was moved from Las Vegas and broadcast live from three of Nashville’s most iconic venues – Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe, hosted by Keith Urban. This year, I used ACM’s mood board-based design to create Stage Banners, Studio Identifier Signage, Environmental Signage, Credentials, Social Distance Stickers, and internal forms.

Stage Banners

Using a pattern from the mood board I built out these stage banners, each one at 194″ x 113″.

Environmental Signage

Dozens of signs were created using this template I designed using direction from the ACM mood board, as 22x28s, A-Frames, Artist Awards Press Cards and Office signage for the Awards show production.

2020 • Party for a Cause Collateral

Due to the pandemic, 2020’s Party For A Cause events originally being held in Las Vegas were cancelled. The sign template and press walls were produced early in 2020.

Environmental Signage & Step and Repeat Press Walls for various Party for a Cause events

Template design for signage & lettering I drew up for the ACM Beach Bash event, usually held at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, before being cancelled due to the pandemic. And a few of the Step and Repeat Press Walls created for various events taking place over the weekend.

2016 • Party for a Cause Collateral

The 4th ACM Party for a Cause® Festival took place on Friday, April 1 – Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, headlined by Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, and Kenny Chesney, respectively each night. ACM Party for a Cause Festival is part of The Week Vegas Goes Country® leading up to the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards. I created original collateral as signage, poster, logos, wristbands, illustration, digital ads, illustrated maps and banners.

Poster Design

I was asked to create a look and feel for these Party for a Cause collateral items. Starting with the poster, I wanted to give it a slightly worn, dark background, allowing the Party for a Cause colorway to pop. Born out of this process was the creation of the western-style artwork that surrounds the Party for a Cause logo, which ended up being used by ACM on many of the pieces they create in-house.

ACM Cashless for a Cause Logo & Wristband Design

The ACM Party for a Cause Festival featured RFID Wristbands for festival entry and exit, which could be activated online before arrival to the festival. This was called ACM Cashless, and allowed attendees to link their credit card to their wristband, and then use it to purchase beverages, food and select merchandise at the event. I created the logo and collateral for use on signage, instructional flyers, social media and digital use, as well as the designing the wristbands.

I drew up this version of the iconic Las Vegas sign for use on digital ads, maps and social media.

Logo Design for the ACM Expo

Acm Expo was a 3-day event held at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, showcasing apparel, jewelry, fine cowboy and western furniture, art and much more. I was asked to design the logo in the vein of the PFAC logo, while being distinctive and stand alone.

2015 • Party for a Cause Collateral

2015 marked the ACM Awards 50th Anniversary and moved to Texas for the big show. The Awards were held at AT&T Stadium, while the 3rd Annual Party for a Cause concerts and events took place at Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers. I created original collateral as artists poster, signage, illustrations, digital graphics and brochure.

Original Poster & Signage Design

This original signage template look & feel was used on the 40+ signs, banners, stage scrims and more throughout Globe Life Park, 2015’s home for the Party for a Cause concerts and events leading up to ACM’s huge production held at AT&T Stadium and the 5oth anniversary of the ACM Awards.

2015 • ACM Awards Collateral

2015 was the year ACM Awards celebrated their 50th anniversary. The show, usually produced in Las Vegas, was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The magnitude of this production called for a lot of hearts and minds to work together to pull off this amazing show and surrounding events. My role was to create 70+ pieces of signage based on the ACM mood board, as well as illustrate a multitude of maps for various crew, talent, etc.

Signage Design

ACM wanted a simple and clean signage design, using their 50th Anniversary logo, for use throughout AT&T Stadium, helping to guide a LOT of concertgoers, talent and crew. These represent many signs, banners and outdoor signage.

Maps! So, so many maps.

To say I drew up a lot of maps for this giant event would be an understatement. Good thing I find it soothing! I love starting with nothing more than a google satellite image and ending up with a clear, organized and functional result. These represent a few of the maps that were used by crew, talent, industry, media and more. I created and illustrated from top to bottom.
